Algeria Remain Top of Medals Table on Day Two of the 2022 Mediterranean Games

Algeria add another 5 medals to the table on the second day of the 2022 Mediterranean Games. Two gold medals won in Badminton and Greco-Roman wrestling and three silver medals in Karate and Greco-Roman wrestling.

Algeria remain top of the medal table with a total of 10 medals.

The Algerian badminton duo consisting of Koceila Mammeri and Youcef Medel were the first to add another gold medal for the national delegation, after beating the Spanish duo Luis Enrique Pereira and Pablo Abian Vicen, with a final score 2-1.

The second gold medal came from Bachir Sid Azara in the Greco-Roman wrestling, after he dominated the Italian Mirco Minguzzi in the final of the 87kg category. The match ended ina comfortable 5-0 score.

Reigning African champion Abd Elkrim Ouakali lost his fight in the 77kg category to the World Champion, the Serb Victor Nemes 9-0. However, he was awarded the silver medal after qualifying for the final.

Ishak Ghaiou another reigning African champion in his respective category of 67kg, also settled for the silver medal, after losing in the last seconds to, the European champion Murat Furat of Turkey 7-6.

The last medal of the day was won by the karateka Hocine Daïkhi, after losing in the final to the Croatian Andilo Kivizic with a score of 2-1 in the 84kg category, in what sees off a historic record for Algeria in Karate winning a total of six medal, four gold and two silver.
