With a total of five medals, four gold and one silver, Algeria surpass their performance from the 2018 Mediterranean Games in just one day.

All medals came from the Karate events placing the hosts on top of the medal table with Turkey in second with two medals and Greece in third with one medal.

Karateka Cylia Ouikene was the first athlete to win Algeria gold after she qualified for the final of the under 50 kg category. She was able to easily finish off the Egyptian Reem Salama with a final score of 5-0.
Finalists are always guaranteed a medal in Katate which in the case of Alaa Selmi it was solver after falling to Eray Samdan of Turkey by 0-5 in the 60kg category.
Louiza Abbouriche made it medal number three for Algeria in the final of the 55kg category after beating the Egyptian Ahlam Youssef 4-1, earning her the top prize of gold.
Shortly after it was Chaima Midi who earned the top spot on the podium after a close fight against the Tunisian Wafa Mahdjoub 3-2 in the final of the 61kg category.
The final medal of the day was won by Oussama Zaid in get another closer match up against Egyptian Abdelaziz Abdalla with a final score of 5-4 in the 75 kg category.
A special mention to all the other Algerian teams who earned points in their respective groups, especially the U18s National Football team who won 1-0 against Spain thanks to a wonder goal by Mehdi Puch-Herrantz.
A successful first day for Algeria who are the delegation with the most participating athletes, which means plenty of more opportunities for medals in the coming days.
