The 2022 Mediterranean Games is fully underway following a spectacular opening ceremony in the Algerian city of Oran.
This year marks the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games, the last time Algeria hosted these games was in 1975 in the capital city Algiers.
The opening ceremony took place in the Miloud-Hadefi Olympic Complex stadium, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune alongside guests from several countries and organisations.
The Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al-Thani, also attended as guest of honor at the invitation of President Tebboune.
Other distinguished guests such as the Captain Regent’s of San Marino, Oscar Mina and Paolo Rondelli. As well as the Turkish Vice-President, Mr. Fuat Oktay and the Italian Minister, Luciana Lamorgese. Finally the Secretary General of the UfM, Nasser Kamel, also attended the opening ceremony.
The 19th edition of the MG will take place till July 6 of which 3,390 athletes from 26 countries will be taking part.
During the 12 days of competition, the athletes will compete for the podiums at stake in the 26 sports.
