#Paralympics: Algeria Day 3

Algeria continued their Paralympic participation on Day 3 of the Games in Rio, and increased their medal tally once again.

ATHLETICS

Many congratulations to Kamel Kardjena who won a silver medal in the men’s F33 shot put. His throw of 10.94m narrowly missed out on a gold medal.

There was another medal to be won in the track and field, with Nadia Medjmedj winning a bronze for her throw of 20.24m in the women’s javelin.

Sofiane Hamdi took part in his third Paralympics, but unfortunately he came 5th in the first heat of the first round of the T37 men’s 100m. His time of 12.07 seconds was not enough for him to advance to the final.

POWERLIFTING

It was a disappointing result for Hocine Bettir who could not register a lift in the men’s 65kg. Having failed to life 190kg twice and 191kg once. He was gutted but the officiating did look very harsh on his final lift which would have given him a chance to fight for the medals.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL

In Group B of the men’s section, Germany beat Algeria 97-41.

GOALBALL

Algeria’s match against Israel was cancelled after Algeria’s women’s team refused to play against the Israelis for political reasons. As a result, Israel were awarded the win by default.
