Gymnast Kaylia Nemour has won Algeria’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in gymnastics, after an incredible performance in the uneven bars event with a remarkable score of 15.700 points.
Nemiur becomes the first ever African to win an Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics with just 17 years of age makes history not only for Algerian sports but worldwide.
A long 12 year wait since The North African nation last earned gold at an Olympic Games, when Taoufik Makhloufi won the men’s 1500m event in London 2012.
Nemour has become Algeria’s sixth Olympic champions since first competing in Tokyo in 1964.
